Fenty Beauty by Rihanna Review

Fenty Beauty by Rihanna ReviewIf you are in any way a makeup lover like myself you will have  heard that Rihanna launched her own makeup line, Fenty Beauty last week and RiRi has not done things by half , she launched over 80 products!!! The collection includes an incredible 40 shade foundation range, 30 contouring and highlighting sticks, highlighters, brushes and more.

Rihannas vision for the makeup line was “that women everywhere would be included”

After noticing a void in the market in the industry, Rihanna focused on a range of traditionally hard to match skin tones, developing formulas that work for all skin types, and pinpointing universal shades.

The collection of makeup caters to “all skin colors, all undertones, from all countries.” The collection includes a foundation with a 40-shade range, one primer, two makeup brushes, three portable makeup brushes, one makeup sponge, one universal matte powder, ten shimmering highlighting sticks, 20 shades of matte contouring sticks, six powder highlighters, blotting powder, blotting paper, and one universal lip gloss.

I picked up 3 products from the Fenty Beauty counter in Harvey Nichols, Dundrum – The Pro-Filter Soft Matte Long Wear Foundation, A Killawatt Free Style Highlighter and The Gloss Bomb Universal Lip Luminizer.

Pro-Filter Soft Matte Long Wear Foundation

Fenty Beauty by Rihanna Review

The Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation is said to  give skin an instantly smooth, pore-diffused, shine-free finish that easily builds to medium to full coverage. The oil-free formula is made with climate-adaptive technology that’s resistant to sweat and humidity, and won’t clog pores. It is said to be long wearing and the light-as-air texture is undetectable on skin.

Massive respect to Rihanna for bringing out such an extensive foundation range , she has definitely catered for all skin tones here which is fantastic!  I’m not going to lie, I had convinced myself that I was not going to buy this foundation and for the main reason that it is a matte foundation and matte foundations generally don’t work with my dry skin. But, I convinced myself otherwise and picked it it up to review.

The packaging is very sleek and simplistic, it comes in a slender frosted glass bottle with a pump and contains 32ml, just a little over an average foundation bottle which usually contains 30ml.  The consistency is quite runny and feels extremely light on the skin. The shade I was matched up with was 120 (Neutral) , and I have to say, it’s perfect match for my skin tone.

Day 1 of wearing the foundation:

To prep my face, I applied Benefit Porefessional to my T-Zone and anywhere where I have enlarged pores, I then applied Laura Mercier Foundation Primer to the rest of my face. I used 3 pumps of the foundation and applied it with my Real Techniques Sponge.

The foundation feels very lightweight on the skin, however, I found the foundation a little hard to blend out at first. I also noticed it was applying a little patchy and it dries down a little quicker than what I’m used to, so I had to work fast to make sure it blended evenly.

The 3 pumps gave me quite a sheer coverage so I applied another layer using 2 pumps. I found this layer a lot easier to blend out and I would say I was left with a medium to an almost full coverage. It did however cling to dry patches on my face with my forehead being the worst. I also noticed creasing around the nose and chin. But, apart from the that, I was happy with the finish. It has very natural/soft focus look on the skin which I liked.

I was also initially worried about the shade match on my first application as it looked to be at least a shade lighter that my skintone. But the foundation does oxidize, so it was a perfect match once it had dried down, surprisingly.  After I applied the foundation I added an extremely light dusting of translucent powder.

Throughout the day the foundation was becoming more at one with my skin and the dry patches were not as promanant as they initially were after application. Even though I was left with a few dry patches it never felt drying on my skin, it felt lightweight and comfortable.  It did begin to breakdown at about 3pm but nothing major and after wearing it for 12 hours it still looked pretty good.

That evening I prept my skin really well for another day of testing the foundation. I exfoliated and applied hydrating products on my skin.

Day 2 & 3 of wearing the foundation:

After prepping my skin well the night before , I found that the foundation applied a lot easier than the previous day,  it still took a little work to blend out but didn’t cling to dry patches.

I was very impressed with how well the foundation looked on my skin. It has a gorgeous soft matte finish that looks really natural on the skin, the foundation held up really well and lasted good 12 hours.

I will have to be careful not to use this foundation on days when my skin is more on the dry side as it is a little drying, most matte foundations usually are on me though and I would recommend picking up a sample before purchasing if you have dry skin like myself.

Killawatt Freestyle Highlighter

Fenty Beauty by Rihanna Review

Definitely my favorite product that I picked up fro the range – The Killawatt Freestyle Highlighting duo in ‘Mean Money & Hu$tla Baby ‘

The Killwatt Highlighters have launched with 2 solo highlighters and 4 duo highlighters. All 4 duo highlighers come with a subtle highlight and a more intense/shimmery highlight.  I picked up the Duo Highlighter in ‘Mean Money’ & ‘Hu$tla Baby’.

‘Mean Money’ gives a gorgeous subtle daytime glow, it is very sheer but I think that is the point with this highlighter – it melts into the skin effortlessly leaving a natural/”glow from within look” – it is perfect if you like a more subtle highlight.

‘Hu$tla Baby’ is just ‘WOW’, gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous!!! I am in love with this highlighter! It was the same almost peachy undertones as ‘Mean Money’ but is about 5 times as intense. Although it is a high shine highlighter it doesn’t give that creppy/chunky finish to the skin.  It melts and blends in to the skin so easily leaving a super intense but yet natural glow. I’m in love.

Glass Bomb Universal Lip Luminizer

Fenty Beauty by Rihanna Review

Another favorite from my purchases from Fenty Beauty – The Glass Bomb is a rose nude shade with a high shine finish. It can be worn alone or over lipstick. I personally love wearing it on its own as it is quite pigmented and transfers as a dusty rose nude shade on my lips . The peachy/vanilla scent is incredible and makes me want to apply it every 5 minutes. The lip-gloss is super comfortable to wear aswell, its not super sticky or clumpy like I find with a lot of lip glosses and is super smooth on the lips. The huge applicator wand makes applying the lip gloss effortless too. The Glass Bomb gets a huge thumbs up from me!

Overall, I am super impressed with the Fenty Beauty range. The foundation is a little drying on my skin but I do love the finish of it, as I said above, make sure to test the foundation out first if you have dry skin by asking for a sample. I am really loving the concept and the inclusiveness of the range and I think Rihanna has done a killer job for her first launch. I can’t wait to see whats next from Fenty Beauty!

The entire range is available from Harvey Nichols  and the Fenty Beauty website here

Have you guys tried anything from the range? Whats your thoughts?

Thanks for reading,

Ciara xx
